Undiknas Holds International Seminar: Exploring Media Censorship Issues in Indonesia’s Digital Age
Denpasar, April 25, 2025 – Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas) once again presented an international academic forum by hosting a seminar titled “Managing Media Censorship in Indonesia’s Digital Age” on Friday, April 25, 2025, held at the Dwi Tunggal Auditorium of Undiknas.
The seminar featured international speaker Dr. Jane Ahlstrand from the University of New England, Australia, who specifically addressed how the media in Indonesia is confronting the challenges of censorship amid rapid digital technological developments.
The event was attended by students from various study programs at Undiknas. Its primary goal was to provide insights and a deep understanding of how media censorship regulations and policies are implemented in the digital era, as well as their impact on freedom of expression, democracy, and information distribution in society.
Through Dr. Ahlstrand’s presentation, participants were invited to explore various strategies for managing media content, from news and entertainment to information disseminated through digital platforms. During the discussion session, students actively shared their views and asked questions regarding the dynamics of media censorship in Indonesia, including the roles of the government, society, and educational institutions in addressing these challenges.
This seminar is part of Undiknas’ ongoing commitment to providing critical and educational discussion spaces that are global in scope but locally relevant. In the midst of technological advancement and the rapid consumption of digital media, the issue of censorship is crucial to be academically explored so that the younger generation can become smart, critical, and responsible media users.
With the successful implementation of this event, Undiknas hopes to continue opening international dialogue spaces that contribute to the development of students’ perspectives in the fields of communication, technology, and media policy.
