Undiknas Tourism Destination Students Visit Blanco Museum
Ubud, November 22, 2024 – Students from the Tourism Destination Study Program, Faculty of Tourism at Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas), participated in an educational visit to the Blanco Museum, one of Bali’s renowned cultural tourism destinations located in Ubud. Accompanied by the Head of the Tourism Destination Study Program, Ni Nyoman Sri Wisudawati, S.ST.Par., M.Par., and other faculty members, this activity aimed to provide students with deep insights into the management of art and culture-based tourist destinations.
During the visit, students were guided by the second-generation managers of the museum, Mario Blanco and Antonio Blanco Junior. Mario Blanco shared the history of the Blanco Museum, a sanctuary dedicated to the works of his late father, the celebrated artist Don Antonio Blanco. He emphasized that the museum is not merely a space to display paintings but serves as a medium for preserving and passing on the stories and artistic experiences of the late artist from one generation to the next.
The students learned how art, such as paintings, can attract visitors from around the world. They also gained knowledge about museum management techniques, strategies for promoting art-based destinations, and the importance of integrating local culture into tourism.
Mario Blanco delivered a meaningful message to the students, emphasizing the role of young generations in preserving local culture amidst the wave of globalization. “We must take pride in our cultural authenticity, not only in Bali but throughout Indonesia. This uniqueness makes us special and a major draw for tourists without succumbing to the concept of tourism that solely focuses on profit,” said Mario Blanco.
He further stressed the significance of understanding cultural values as a heritage that must be preserved. This ensures that destinations like the Blanco Museum can continue to be iconic representations of art and culture, supporting sustainable tourism development.
This visit provided invaluable experiences for the students, helping them understand how art and culture can be integrated into developing tourist destinations. Beyond practical knowledge, the activity also inspired them to contribute to preserving local culture.
The Blanco Museum stands not only as a legacy of Don Antonio Blanco’s artistic journey but also as a symbol of commitment to preserving Bali’s rich and unique cultural heritage.
