Undiknas Tourism Destination Student Educational Tour : Learning Local Wisdom in Tenganan Village and Penglipuran Village
Denpasar – On Tuesday, November 21, students of the Tourism Destinations study program at the Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas) made educational visits to two cultural villages, namely Tenganan Village and Penglipuran Village. This activity is an integral part of the study program to provide students with direct insight into sustainable practices in managing tourist destinations.
The visit begins in Tenganan Village, a traditional Balinese village which is famous for its unique culture. Students are allowed to observe and learn about the way of life of local people. They can see how local craftsmen make double ikat cloth, a traditional art passed down from generation to generation.
Not only that, students are also invited to interact directly with village residents. This gives them an in-depth look at how local wisdom is reflected in everyday life, from cloth patterns to closely guarded social traditions.
The journey continues to Penglipuran Village, a village in Bangli which is known as one of the cleanest villages in the world. Here, students are invited to understand the principles of sustainability adopted by the local community. They had the opportunity to discuss directly with village policymakers regarding tourism management strategies that focus on cultural and environmental preservation.
This activity is aimed at providing students with practical insight into how tourist destinations can be managed wisely. This kind of hands-on experience allows them to see the complexity of the challenges and opportunities involved in the tourism industry.
Apart from providing educational benefits for students, these visits also support the local economy. The presence of tourists, especially in an educational format like this, provides positive economic incentives to local communities.
The visit to Tenganan Village and Penglipuran Village is not just a trip but is part of the university’s efforts to provide deeper education through direct experience. By combining theory with practice in the field, Undiknas Tourism Destination students can become agents of change that have a positive impact on the tourism industry in the future.
