Denpasar – The Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas) through the Buddhist Student Family (KMB) to celebrate Kathina Holy Day held a series of events which were attended by all Undiknas KMB members to take part in spreading peace and showing devotion to Sangha members who have been doing the Rains Retreat for 90 days as part of Kathina Day celebrations for Buddhists. The celebration of Kathina Day or also known as Kathina Dana is a day full of blessings for Buddhists to plant the seeds of virtue. Kathina Day is observed between October and November. The word Kathina means the garb of merit which is given annually to the Sangha or Group of Monks/Bhikkhus after retiring during the Rains Retreat. During the Rains Retreat, the monks devote themselves exclusively to meditation and deepening the teachings of the Dharma in a more secluded place for 90 days.
The series of Kathina Day celebration activities organized by KMB Undiknas took place at the Asoka Arama Vihara, Denpasar, which began with a preparatory agenda involving the implementing committee from the Undiknas KMB assisted by administrators from the Asoka Arama Vihara. The main agenda for celebrating Kathina Day is filled with praying with all participants as well as the community who attend and celebrate Kathina Day at the Asoka Arama Vihara, as well as giving activities to the Sangha/Bhikkhu Group by giving Bhikkhuni robes, medicines, toiletries, and funds. Furthermore, Siripada Puja activities were also held by all participants by placing lotus flowers and candles in the river as a form of respect and gratitude to the Buddha.
Through the celebration of Kathina Day that has been carried out, the Buddhist Student Family of the Universitas Pendidikan Nasional hopes that all contributions made can bring benefits and goodness to the recipients. As a committee with all participants who take part in the activity, it is hoped that they can continue to spread goodness and Dharma teachings to strengthen the sense of brotherhood between students and in the community, clean up the kilesas or impurities that exist in the mind, and increase the sense of devotion to the Sangha and fellow living beings that exist.
