Undiknas in Collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Debriefing Forum III
Denpasar-baliotonom.com. In the spirit of the Ambassador for Sharing to the Campus, Policy Assessment and Development Agency (known as BPPK) of Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas University) Denpasar held a virtual Debriefing III forum of the Head of Indonesian Representatives. On this occasion, Ambassador to Oman for the 2016 – 2020 period Mustopha Taufik Abdul Latifdan and Mansyur Pangeran (Indonesian Ambassador in Dakar, Senegal concurrently to Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Cape Verde for the 2016-2020 period) shared experiences as the Head of Representative in accredited countries. Besides, he also conveyed various potential cooperation that the Government of Indonesia could still explore. The virtual event was held on Wednesday, 7th of October 2020.
The forum was opened by Head of Center for Policy Studies and Development (known as P2K) Multilateral Policy Assessment and Development Agency, Dindin Wahyudin and Rector of Undiknas University Denpasar, Dr. Ir. Nyoman Sri Subawa, S.T. S.Sos., M.M. The event was hosted by Joevi Roedyati (Associate Expert Diplomat, Center for Policy Studies and Development Multilateral Policy Assessment and Development Agency) and Agus Fredy Maradona, S.E., MSA., Ak., Ph.D., CA. (Vice Rector for Partnership and Entrepreneurship, Undiknas Denpasar) as discussant. At the forum, Dindin Wahyudin, as the designated Ambassador to Senegal, also had the opportunity to convey several action plans to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and accredited countries.
On this event, Ambassador Musthofa Taufik Abdul Latif shared his experiences regarding efforts to provide protection to Indonesian citizens in the accreditation area and efforts to change the negative perceptions of the Omani people towards Indonesia. In addition, the increase in imports from Oman has resulted in Indonesia’s trade balance experiencing a deficit for the past three years. In this regard, Ambassador Musthofa encourages the government to take the opportunities offered by Oman, such as the procurement of trains to improve the Indonesia-Oman trade balance.
Ambassador Mansyur Pangeran in his presentation emphasized that Indonesia needs to pay more attention to the African continent, especially western Africa because there is still a lot of potential for cooperation that can be achieved; considering the improving economic profile of the accreditation area. Sectors that can be improved include construction, transportation (locomotives), and defense (defense equipment). To take advantage of the broad market potential in West Africa, support is needed in the form of financial support from the government and commitment to its implementation. Moreover, cooperation between universities in the form of teacher exchanges and scholarships for students from accredited countries can be increased to strengthen people-to-people contact between the two countries and ensure Indonesia’s existence in the region.
The Debriefing III Forum was attended by at least 779 participants consisting of lecturers and students from Undiknas and other universities, state-owned enterprises (known as BUMN), media, Indonesian representatives abroad, as well as various related work units at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The participants seemed very enthusiastic in following the forum. In the question and answer session, participants actively explored information related to cooperation opportunities from the Ambassadors who were present as resource persons. This showed that the Debriefing forum apart from being a forum for sharing experiences and knowledge of Ambassadors, could also be a bridge of cooperation between universities and businessmen to Indonesian Representatives.
