Undiknas Student Study Service (KKN) Program: The Spike of the Covid-19 Pandemic Did Not Lower Students’ Enthusiasm from Visiting the Village

It is almost a month and a half for students from Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas) to carry out community service activities in the Student Study Service (KKN) program for the Odd Semester 2021/2022 period. In implementing the KKN program, student activities are carried out in villages that have been determined by the Undiknas Research and Community Service Institute (or Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian Masyarakat which is shortened as LP2M). Unlike the usual KKN implementation, during this KKN period, Undiknas students did not do lodging in the village. Students come to the village when carrying out their work program, which has been agreed upon in advance with village officials and the community. During student activities in the village, Undiknas Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ir. Nyoman Sri Subawa, S.T., S.Sos., M.M., IPM. accompanied by the Vice-Chancellors and Deans, visited several villages in Penebel District, Tabanan Regency (29/01/2022).

During the visit made by the Undiknas management, some students were not at the KKN post because they were still carrying out activities in the community in helping village officials. In another village, some students are conducting teaching activities and assisting the implementation of health protocols in elementary schools.

The Covid-19 pandemic still covers all levels of society, especially rural communities that need sufficient literacy related to the new normal life. The presence of students amid society can help the government disseminate health protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19, implement a healthy lifestyle, and develop work programs that can help the community’s economy during the Covid-19 pandemic. The uncertain situation of the Covid-19 pandemic did not dampen the enthusiasm of Undiknas students to carry out work programs that could benefit the community and villages.

In implementing the Student Study Service (KKN) program during the Covid-19 Pandemic situation, the Undiknas Chancellor hopes that the implementation of the Student Study Service will continue to contribute to village development and benefit the community’s welfare, especially during the community’s economic recovery. Students are expected to remain creative, innovative in preparing work programs and continue to apply strict health protocols during the implementation of the work program.
