History of Undiknas
Universitas Pendidikan Nasional, or well known as Undiknas University, was founded on February 17th, 1969. Before forming as a university, Undiknas was firstly established as an academy in banking called Akademi Bank, abbreviated as AKABA. In 1976, the academy was renamed into the Academy of Finance and Banking, with the abbreviation for the permanent name AKABA. In order to broaden the scope of educational programs organized by AKABA, institutional development was implemented in 1980 with the change in AKABA to Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Keuangan (STIK) or High School of Finance. Furthermore, in answering the educational challenges of the increasingly dynamic tertiary level in the 1980s and accommodating the growing vision and mission of STIK Denpasar, it had improved its institutional status to become a university in 1984, namely Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas University), a university which has been operating until now.
Moreover, Undiknas has 11 programs, with a composition of nine programs at the undergraduate degree and three programs at the postgraduate degree. The programs at the undergraduate level are Management program, Accounting program, International Class program, Law program, Communication program, Public Administration program, Civil Engineering program, Electrical Engineering program, and Information Technology program. Those programs at the undergraduate level are managed through three faculties, namely:
Faculty of Economics and Business (which manages Management Program and Accounting Program, including International class programs);
Faculty of Law and Social Sciences (which manages the Law Studies Program, Communication Studies Program, and Public Administration Program);
Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (which manages the Civil Engineering Program, Electrical Engineering Program, and Information Technology Program).
Meanwhile, programs at the master level are such as Master of Management Program, Master of Public Administration Program, and Master of Law Studies Program. These three programs are managed by Undiknas Postgraduate Institution called Undiknas Graduate School.
Moreover, in facing the constantly changing challenges of the education, Undiknas has always been improving, both in terms of facilities, infrastructure, and resources. The quality of educators and employees has continuously improved in order to support the process of learning, research, and community service. All efforts that have been executed to develop and improve the implementation of Three Pillars of Higher Education in Undiknas quality have yielded encouraging results with the achievement of good and excellent accreditation titles from National Accreditation Agency of Higher Education (BAN-PT) for the programs owned by Undiknas. Thus, the rank of accreditation on each program at Undiknas can be specified in detail as follows:
Instead of being accredited for each program, Undiknas as an institution (at the university level) is also accredited by National Accreditation Agency of Higher Education (BAN-PT). The rank of accreditation for Undiknas is B (Good). The accreditation of this institution is a tangible manifestation of Undiknas’ commitment to implement the principles of good university governance in implementing education, research, and community service programs.
As a visionary and adaptive university, Undiknas has a series of visions, missions, and strategic goals which are summarized in three main pillars, namely: Global, Smart, and Digital. These three main pillars are at the same time a platform that forms the main foundation for Undiknas in establishing its steps as an international university.
Nowadays Undiknas has been doing a transformation into a Techno-Research-Preneur campus. The new tagline of Techno-Research-Preneur campus has answered the industrial challenges of 4.0 to 5.0. It has made Undiknas becoming more adaptive for the upcoming changes. As the adaptive one, Undiknas has created graduates which spurred and based on those three visionary guidelines (Techno-research-preneur). Based on the new technology obtained from research, Undiknas have been able to produce graduates who are having high entrepreneurial spirit and ready to work in the real life sitatuation.
