HIMA TI Undiknas Organizes Social Work 2024: Optimizing Urban Farming for Sustainable Cities
Denpasar – The Information Technology Student Association (HIMA TI) of Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas) successfully held the 2024 Information Technology Social Work event under the theme “Optimizing Urban Farming for Maximum Benefits and Urban Solutions.” The event, held at Tat Twam Asi Orphanage Foundation in Denpasar, served as an educational and hands-on platform for urban farming as an innovative solution to urban challenges.
The event was attended by 82 student committee members, 6 lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics (FTI), and 38 orphanage children. The program was opened by the MC, followed by dividing participants into five groups. Each group was guided by a teaching team consisting of five students and one supervising lecturer. The lecturers involved in the event included I Nyoman Indra Kumara, Aditya Suranata, Kadek Darmaastawan, Ika Candrawengi, and Yadhurani D.A.
The activity began with the screening of an educational video on urban farming concepts, prepared by the teaching team. This video helped participants understand the importance of urban farming, utilizing unused spaces and recycled waste such as used bottles and gallons for planting.
Next, the children engaged in hands-on practice using the Verticulture method—a vertical farming technique that saves space and is environmentally friendly. Under the guidance of mentors, they learned how to grow vegetables and other beneficial plants.
Following the practical session, an interactive Q&A session was held. Children who provided the most and best answers received prizes as an appreciation. The event continued with a shared lunch, fostering a sense of togetherness between the committee, lecturers, and orphanage children. To conclude, all participants and organizers took a group photo to capture the memorable moments of Information Technology Social Work 2024.
